What is Can Can?

If you haven’t had Can Can, then the most similar dish I have found, that more people have heard of is Chicken Tetrazzini.  Can Can, however is rice based, not noodle based! It is not anywhere near a healthy dish, but it is a great dish to keep in your recipe book for when you need a warm, hit the spot, comfort food!  It is an easy dish to memorize so it pops up in our rotation of meals once every few months.  It also makes a lot, so we have lunch a few days after!

I was introduced to Can Can by my In-Laws.  Ryan and his family had this dish a lot growing up and it continues to be in their rotation of meals.  It was one of the first family dishes I learned for Ryan. I knew that I wanted to make sure to cook meals he grew up with.  You know, for hard days when you are feeling like you just need something familiar!

We serve it with more healthy foods like, canned green beans and shells and cheese. Then we load all of it up with cracked pepper. Don’t even pretend like you don’t have one of these meals somewhere in your favorite meals list. Don’t even!


2 large skinless, boneless, chicken breast

1 can cream of mushroom

1 can cream of celery

1 can cream of chicken

2 cups sour cream

2 cups instant rice

1 cup broth from boiling chicken

1 bag of french fried onions

Cooking Instruction

pre-heat oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit

boil chicken in water or broth (your preference), until cooked through

place cooked chicken in 9×13 casserole dish and shred

add cream of mushroom, celery, and chicken, rice, sour cream and broth and stir together

once even mixed place dish in oven for 35 minutes

pull dish out and layer french fried onions on top and put back in oven for 5-10 minutes
